My Research Motivations

Finding motivations in Every Aspects

Research Motivations:

I am an electrochemistry and Materials Science Researcher with cumulated experience of more than 8 years.  3+ years’ experience in flow cell electrolyzers, gas diffusion electrode and membranes for electrolyzers. I Worked in Electrochemical and Photoelectrochemical H2 production and CO2 reduction. My keen interest is in "Lab to industry" approach in research. Over the last 2 years I have been intrigued by the possibility of expanding my research works into the industry output. During this years I have built flow cell reactor system with in-situ characterization of mass spec and IR spectroscopy in CO2 reduction project. My Research interests and expertise are in understanding and identifying the long-term diagnostic tools for electrolyzers using in-situ electrochemical tools, ex-situ materials characterizations and finding optimum parameters for engineering the different device parts.  My biggest inspiration and motivations are my teachers and mentors who have helped me in every possible way to  move forward in spite of hurdles.

About Me:

I am Manjeet Chhetri, currently Postdoc Researcher at the Clemson University, USA. I completed my PhD in Physical Chemistry with an experience in Electrochemistry and Photo-electrochemistry with a hands-on expertise in Materials science and in-situ characterizations. In the last few years as a postdoc researcher, I have been working on the bipolar
membrane and its use in integrated devices including the flow cell and MEA for CO2 reductions. At Clemson, I switched to Chemical Engineering Department to gain better experiences of engineering aspects of reactor building- fluid flow channels, Mass flow and fluid pressure management, efficient design to effectively build scalable reactor systems. I have the experience in materials synthesis and characterizations and electrochemical testing for heterogenous catalysis including the effects of impurities and the long-term stability and diagnostic tools specifications. My past 9 years of experience I have proven track record of interdisciplinary collaborations and assisting graduate and undergraduate students with their projects. I have an experience in the novel catalyst synthesis and the study of catalytic surfaces using Spectro-Electrochemical technique both in-situ and ex-situ to decipher the underlying mechanisms in alternative energy research-CO2 reduction, H2O splitting to produce hydrogen. I like implementing new research ideas through grant writings and assisting my colleague graduate students. My long-standing interest has been in the use of electrochemistry to improve testing protocols and diagnostic tools in long term stability of electrolyzer devices using the knowledge of electrochemistry. I am ready to take a role of independently heading the research projects. In the last 3 years as a postdoc researcher I have delved deep into understanding of key research techniques and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students while at the same time developing the technical skill set and knowledge of electrochemistry that I will need to succeed in my future research endeavors.

Outside Academia:

I am an ardent follower of English Premier League and support Chelsea FC, Hero Indian Super League and support Bengaluru FC. I play Football and like to go for long runs. Words that can describe me are- sports enthusiast, Bibliophile, Cinephile. I like connecting to under-represented communities in science and higher education and provide them with motivations, career counselling and finding opportunities for them.
